Homemade Crescent Rolls Recipe

Let’s dive right into the recipe. But first, feast your eyes on these mouthwatering images that will give you a glimpse of what’s to come:

Homemade Crescent Rolls

  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

2. In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the milk, sugar, salt, softened butter, and egg. Stir in the yeast mixture.

3. Gradually add the flour to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Once the dough starts to come together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

4. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Shape it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the dough. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

5. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal parts. Working with one part at a time, roll it out into a 12-inch circle on a lightly floured surface.

6. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the circle into 12 equal wedges, just like you would with a pizza.

7. Starting from the wide end, roll each wedge up into a crescent shape. Place the crescents on a greased baking sheet, curving the ends slightly to achieve the classic crescent shape.

8. Repeat steps 5-7 with the remaining dough.

9. Cover the shaped crescents with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

10. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

11. Bake the crescent rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. As soon as they come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter to enhance their flavor and give them a beautiful sheen.
