Sourdough Starter Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of room temperature water

Instructions:

  1. In a clean glass jar or container, combine the flour and water.
  2. Stir until well mixed. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
  3. Cover the jar loosely with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
  4. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
  5. After 24 hours, discard half of the mixture.
  6. Add another 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of room temperature water to the jar, and stir well.
  7. Cover and let sit for another 24 hours.
  8. Repeat this process every 24 hours for about 5-7 days, or until the mixture becomes bubbly and has a tangy aroma.

Who doesn’t love the heavenly aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls? With this recipe, you can enjoy the perfect balance of soft, fluffy dough and a gooey cinnamon filling.

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
  • 2 cups of active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • For the filling:
  • 1/2 cup of softened butter
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the flour and baking powder, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  7. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon, then sprinkle this mixture generously over the buttered dough.
  9. Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  10. Cut the log into 2-inch thick slices and arrange them in the greased baking dish.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown.
  12. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar and milk together until smooth.
  13. Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over them while they are still warm.
